The theory that miscarriages are caused by evil spirits would make sense to the ibo, because miscarriages cause great sorrow for the mother and they believe the evil spirit dies and is reborn on purpose. Also, they needed an explanation that provides justification and displaces blame for personal safety, that made cultural sense.  The most challenging part of reading chapter was trying to figure out what was going on when they were digging up the rock, because it did not make sense
