The story of the tortoise is about a very sneaky turtle who tricks the birds into letting him come to their feast in the sky. After arriving at the gather tortoise fooled the birds and made the birds give him all the food. The birds were furious so some of them left. Parrot decided to get revenge so he told tortoises wife to bring out all the hard things in the house so that tortoise would land on them when he jumped from the sky. tortoise jumps down and cracks his shell. his wife called a doctor and the doctor puts his shell back together, that's why turtles have cracked shells. Chinua achebe may have included this to foreshadow an event that may happen to Okonkwo.
